Commissioned Portrait

At the request of a good friends' husband, I was commissioned to paint their 2 sons and their dog for his wife's birthday. I had it completed awhile back and my friend was very happy with what I had accomplished.  Here is the finished product:

My Chocolate Painting

I had painted this painting awhile back and forgot to post it on here.  One of things I miss about Australia is it's chocolate! And these three that I have painted are my favorites: Pollywaffle, Violet Crumble,  and Picnic.

Books I love: Drawing from the City

I bought this beautiful handmade art book for Dh's birthday. It is called Drawing from the City by Tejubehan. If you want to view more pages, go here.
The book is truly exquisite! I love the fact it's all in black and white and the story is about the writer's life rising from an impoverished childhood in Mumbai to adulthood marrying her husband, who is also her creative partner. Pretty cool!

George Bellows, "Emma and her Chidren," Oil on Canvas, 1923

I went to the Metropolitan Museum the other day and saw the wonderful George Bellows exhibition. I truly was blown away! I had really only known George Bellows through his boxing paintings but he had also painted beautiful landscapes, city scenes and portraits. He painted from his life at the time. It was one of the best exhibitions I had seen in a long time. If you get the chance, go and take a look. It closes on February 18, 2013.

Article on Sherwood Anderson about art and life

Saw this inspirational article from brainpickings.org about Sherwood Anderson who wrote a letter to his son about painting and art and life. See the article here.  The article comes from a book called Posterity: Letters of Great Americans to their Children by Dorie McCollough Lawson. One of my favorite quotes from the article is: "It’s what you feel about it, what it means to you."

A New Painting by me!

I decided to paint something that was greatly influenced by one of my all time favorite artists -Richard Diebenkorn.. I painted from a photo that I took and it's a figurative/abstraction piece.
